I was just getting off work and decided to go see what all the commotion was about. People were being pushed down the street by the gentlemen you see behind me, so I sat down and started telling the others to sit down and not move.
As soon as a bottle came flying from way in the back, those dudes jumped into full battle mode, and my girlfriend got hit in the face with the foam bear mace. She was totally taken out by it, but then some anarchist medic showed up out of nowhere and wiped her eyes with mineral oil, then purified water.
That was pretty much the end of my WTO protest.

it’s been my experience that street protests frequently bring out the best and the worst in people. it’s been awhile since i went to one that got crazy, but i’m pretty wary all the time. the olympic torch relay protest was a totally bizarre day for several reasons, but one was that the police were on their absolute best behavior, at least from everything i saw. there were several points where i was sure they were going to start cracking down on people, but for some reason they didn’t.
