Haven’t had another attack on our soil on Bush’s watch? What, one wasn’t enough?
If you have paid any attention at all to Osama bin Laden, he has repeatedly said that he wants to bring down the US by getting it hopelessly mired in wars it cannot afford in order to collapse the economy. Bush and McCain’s ‘War Without End’ plays right into his hand.

YEAH,APOLOGIES FOR THE INSULTS- ONE ATTACK IS OBVIOUSLY ONE TOO MANY, BUT WITHOUT RETALIATION (AND SOMEWHAT OF A STRONGHOLD IN IRAQ), MORE ATTACKS BY THIS TIME WOULD HAVE BEEN INEVITABLE. Yes, I must agree that what we are fed in our media is as spurious as what our ‘elected’ officials give us.
I think it is interesting that when we peel back the layers of misunderstanding we find ourselves much closer to middle ground on these things.
One of my biggest regrets about the Iraq war, strategically, is that Iraq and Iran acted as ballast to one another when Saddam was in power. We created a power vacuum that Iran is more than happy to try and fill.
So not only did we unleash misery and death, we empowered a relatively weak country (Iran) as well as fomenting lawlessness in Iraq which is now acting as a breeding ground for new terrorists.
Now don’t get me started on Afghanistan…
