Savage Mules

Dennis Perrin is on of my favorite bloggers.  He is also one of the best pundits in the country.  But because he keeps writing things like this, we don’t get to see him on CNBC or Fox News.  No one likes a know-it-all.  And people like having their ignorance pointed out even less.

Basically the book details how important the Democrats have been to maintaining the US imperial state for the last century.  It certainly makes this case, and helped to push me even further Left.  It shows how vulnerable we all are to the propaganda spewing forth from inside the beltway.

I guess the thing that was most challenging about this book was that it made me very apathetic towards our government, because it dispelled some of my most cherished Democratic myths (Jimmy Carter openly threatening other countries over oil?  I thought he was one of the good ones!).  If I can’t believe that one of the two parties represents my beliefs, where can I turn?  To the completely marginalized third parties?  Community organizing?  Screaming at the sky?

I recommend reading this book as a quick primer on just how hypocritical it is for the Democrats to present themselves as the Party of Peace.  It is well written and witty, so the pain is numbed, a little.

Buy it at Amazon, or at a subversive basement bookstore near you.

    3rd parties

    Community organizing

    Screaming at the sky

Those are my three basic food groups!

Ya know, Americans have been getting a bit pudgy around the middle (swing voters, blew dog dems, etc.) perhaps if you all make those your food groups, we can lose some of that excess fat (feckless two party appaRATchiks in the house and senate)

You have already started the diet by giving up eating the nonsense fed by the dirty dems. Might as well try the new diet whole hog!

The scientifically impossible I do right away
The spiritually miraculous takes a bit longer

If you’re willing to let your cynicism expand and strengthen, there is no reason why you can’t continue to work politically, even having leared this from Perrin. There is no reason why you can’t work to transform our political system from toxic waste back into shit. I’d certainly rather have Marcus Aurelius running the Empire, than Caligula.

That said, the third parties aren’t totally without power. Maybe they’d do better if they got a coherent strategy together? Community organizers can achieve a lot. Even screaming at the sky can be good, if it’s done artistically.
